North South University (NSU) hosted its fall semester orientation program. The semester-wise orientation program, which serves as a significant event for NSU freshers, aims to acquaint students with the university’s culture and academic approach, a press release said.

In the Orientation program, 94 students were awarded scholarships at varying rates, including 100 percent merit scholarships granted to 35 students in recognition of their exceptional performance in the Bachelor’s (Honors) admission test.

Dr. Md. Mokhles Ur Rahman, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Public Administration, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, attended the event as the Chief Guest. The event was also graced by Special Guest Aziz Al Kaiser, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of NSU, and the Guest of Honour Benajir Ahmed, member of the Board of Trustees, NSU. Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of NSU, chaired the session.

The program commenced with reciting the Holy Quran and the National Anthem, followed by a Documentary screening. NSU Registrar Dr. Ahmed Tazmeen delivered the welcome speech to the new students.

Professor Md. Rizwanul Islam, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Professor ShazzadHosain, Dean of the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences, Professor Dipak Kumar Mitra, Dean of the School of Health and Life Sciences, and Professor AKM Waresul Karim, Dean of the School of Business and Economics, introduced their respective schools.

Chief Guest Dr. Md. Mokhles Ur Rahman said, “In just thirty-one years, North South University (NSU) has achieved a truly extraordinary position in the landscape of higher education in Bangladesh. Within this short span of time, NSU has demonstrated that with quality education, advanced research, and a modern outlook, it is indeed possible to build a world-class university. Yet, this is not the end of the journey. We must move further ahead, and launching MPhil and PhD programs is now a demand of the time. Such initiatives will elevate NSU in higher education and research.”

Aziz Al Kaiser, Chairman of the NSU Board of Trustees, said, “NSU is committed to providing world-class education, preparing students to apply their knowledge to real-life challenges. A person may be good, but not necessarily a valuable human resource. At NSU, we strive to ensure our students become both. This is why the university continues to uphold its reputation as one of the country’s leading private institutions.”

Benajir Ahmed, member of the NSU Board of Trustees, remarked, “A person is shaped by their environment. Since its inception, NSU has been committed to providing students with a creative and constructive environment. To expand this vision further, we have developed a new campus in Purbachal, including residential facilities for students.”

Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of NSU, said, “I congratulate all the new students who have been admitted to one of the top universities in the country. You have proven your potential by completing one of the most rigorous admission tests in Bangladesh. Only the most deserving candidates earn this opportunity. At NSU, we pride ourselves on having some of the best faculty members in the nation. We do not follow conventional methods of education. Instead, we follow a globally recognised curriculum and modern teaching practices, ensuring our students develop into valuable human resources for the country. They are the ones who will shape the nation and emerge as the future academics and leaders of this country.”

NSU Treasurer and Pro Vice-Chancellor (IC) Professor Abdur Rob Khan delivered the vote of thanks. He said, “NSU is committed to nurturing critical thinking, ethical leadership, and innovation. We want you to succeed in your careers and contribute meaningfully to society and the nation. Your success will be measured by what you achieve in your academic life and how much positive change you will bring to society.”

The program concluded with a captivating cultural performance by members of the North South University Shangskritik Shangathan (NSUSS).
