Mastercard, Islami Bank launch digital payment system at RU for ‘Cashless BD’

Mastercard, in collaboration withIslami Bank Bangladesh PLC, today announced the inauguration of Bangladesh’s first-ever fully cashless university campus at Rajshahi University under Bangladesh Bank’s ‘Cashless Bangladesh’ initiative. The transformation will enable students, faculty, and visitors to conduct quick, secure, and convenient digital transactions across campus facilities, significantly reducing reliance on cash and accelerating the adoption of smart financial services, a press release said.

As part of the initiative, Rajshahi University is being equipped with digital payment acceptance tools such as Point-of-Sale (POS) machines and Bangla QR, ensuring that all campus transactions – from cafeterias and bookstores to administrative offices – can be completed digitally. In addition, an exclusive debit card for students has been launched through the ceremony, offering them a convenient and secure way to manage their daily financial needs.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Professor Dr. Mohammad Main Uddin, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration)of Rajshahi University, as the chief guest. WhileRathin Kumar Paul, Director, Rajshahi Office, Bangladesh Bank;Md. Sharafat Ullah Khan, Director, Payment Systems Department; and Rafeza Akhter Kanta, Director, Payment Systems Department from Bangladesh Bank joined the ceremony as special guests. Senior officials Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC, and Mastercard were also present at the event.
