Our attention has been drawn to the news regarding the special qualification assessment test of the officials of the Islamic Bank in various media. In this context, the statement of the Islamic Bank, a press release said.
“After taking the initiative to conduct a special assessment test to verify the qualifications of the officials of the Islamic Bank Bangladesh PLC, some officials filed a writ in the High Court against this test. The Honorable High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh directed Bangladesh Bank to settle the matter. The Banking Regulations and Policies Division (Division-2) of Bangladesh Bank settled the matter and informed the writ petitioner and the Islami Bank authorities. It says, ‘Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC, being a privately owned for-profit institution, is regulated by the prevailing laws, rules and conditions of employment of its officers/employees and since the profit and loss of the bank is largely related to the jobs and the performance of the officers/employees, the bank can independently take decisions in accordance with the laws and rules of the country. In this context, the issue of conducting a special qualification assessment test and keeping or not keeping someone in the job is within the bank’s own jurisdiction.’
The bank authorities organized the special qualification assessment test on September 27, 2025 through the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) of Dhaka University. In this case, there was no contempt of court or violation of the law.
