In a joint effort by JCI Dhaka Metro and Swapnodana Foundation, a unique initiative titled “Project Gulbagan” has been launched. Through this project, employment opportunities and dignity are being restored in the life of a man devastated by a cyclone.
Bajlur Rahman, a fisherman from the coastal region of Barguna, lost his home, land, and entire livelihood in a deadly cyclone. Displaced and struggling to survive, he set out in search of a new means of living. At this critical time, JCI Dhaka Metro and Swapnodana Foundation stood beside him and, under the umbrella of Project Gulbagan, gave him the chance to begin a new life.
“Project Gulbagan is not just an agricultural initiative; it is a beacon of hope for climate-affected individuals, a pathway to sustainable livelihoods, and an opportunity to live with dignity in society,” said JCI Dhaka Metro Local President Toufiq Hasan.
The project directly contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 1: No Poverty SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production SDG 15: Life on Land At the same time, it aligns with the ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) framework: Environmental (E): Sustainable land use and eco-friendly farming Social (S): Empowering marginalized and climate-affected communities Governance (G): Transparent and inclusive partnerships Project Gulbagan is a shining example of how collaboration, innovation, and humanitarian responsibility can come together to transform a life and bring sustainable change to society.
