German envoy, BGMEA president discuss trade ties

German Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr. Rüdiger Lotz paid a courtesy call on BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka. During the meeting, they discussed ways to further strengthen and expand bilateral trade relations between Bangladesh and Germany, a press release said.

During the meeting, BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan presented an overall picture of the ready-made garment industry in Bangladesh. He explained the key priorities of the industry to maintain its competitiveness in the global market, which include – readiness for due diligence compliance, product diversification with emphasis on non-cotton garments, and decarbonization initiatives.

Praising the significant progress of the industry, Ambassador Dr. Lotz highlighted the importance of continuing progress in the environmental and social sectors. He also appreciated Bangladesh’s efforts to ensure access to the European Union market through GSP+ facilities after its graduation to a middle-income country.

BGMEA Senior Vice President Enamul Haque Khan, Vice President Md. Shihab Uddoza Chowdhury, Vice President (Finance) Mizanur Rahman, Director Shah Rayid Chowdhury, Director Nafis Ud Daula, Director Fahima Akhtar, Director Rumana Rashid and Director Mohammad Sohel were present in the meeting.
