MAMA Lemon Liquid Dishwash, a trusted household name from Lion Kallol Ltd., hosted a “Meet the Press” event today at Lakeshore Heights, Dhaka, to introduce the Kitchen Hygiene Awareness Campaign. The campaign is designed to improve hygiene habits and food safety practices among primary school students in Bangladesh. The event brought together representatives from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), University of Dhaka, Lion Kallol Ltd, Kallol Group of Companies, leading journalists and other stakeholders, a press release said.

The Kitchen Hygiene Awareness Campaign is running in 651 schools in Manikganj. Students in grades 3 and 4 are learning important habits like washing hands properly, handling food safely, and washing dishes correctly. They are also being trained to become “Hygiene Ambassadors,” so they can share these habits with their families and communities. The program uses a three-step training method under JICA’s Strengthening the Inspection, Regulatory and Coordinating (STIRC) Project: first, teachers are trained by experts; then they train other teachers; finally, students learn through interactive lessons at school.

Speaking at the event, Okada Akiko, Project Formulation Advisor at JICA Bangladesh, highlighted the importance of teaching children good hygiene habits early. She said, “When children learn and practice hygiene, they influence their families and help build healthier communities.” She also emphasized the value of public-private partnerships in creating long-term social impact.

Takeshi Hasegawa, Managing Director of Lion Kallol Ltd., reflected on Lion’s global expertise in hygiene and he said education and technology together can transform everyday hygiene practices and thanked JICA for their support.

Ghulam Mustafa, Managing Director of Kallol Group of Companies, shared his pride in supporting a campaign that promotes community well-being and long-term hygiene awareness for families nationwide.

Additionally, Dr. Md. Latiful Bari, Chief Scientist at the Centre for Advanced Research in Sciences (CARS), explained how bacteria accumulate in kitchens and stressed that using liquid dishwash with running water can greatly reduce contamination and prevent foodborne illnesses.

Marketing Director Tonmoy Dutta Gupta highlighted Lion Kallol’s commitment to improving kitchen hygiene and noted that the campaign also supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being. He shared that students would become Hygiene Ambassadors and hinted at plans for a future “Kitchen Hygiene Awareness Day.”
