TIKA gifts high-tech microscope to DU

Dhaka University (DU) has taken a significant leap forward in its scientific research capacity with the formal handover of a state-of-the-art Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA). The highly specialized instrument, essential for nanoscale experimental analysis, is expected to transform interdisciplinary research across the university’s science-related faculties.The handover ceremony was held on Tuesday afternoon in the conference room adjoining the Vice Chancellor’s Office. The program was presided over by Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Treasurer of Dhaka University.

Strengthening DU’s Global Research Footprint:  Speaking as the chief guest, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan remarked that the addition of the AFM comes at a moment when Dhaka University is gaining recognition for its achievements in global interdisciplinary science rankings. He stated that the new equipment will substantially enhance the university’s research depth and international visibility.

Professor Niaz noted, “This advanced technology will significantly enhance the quality and scope of our scientific investigations. After fulfilling our internal research priorities, we intend to make this facility accessible to other institutions as part of our broader commitment to national research development.”

A Testament to International Collaboration: Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed attended as the special guest. Senior academic administrators were also present, underscoring the strategic importance of the collaboration.

Among the attendees were: Professor Dr. Abdus Salam, Dean, Faculty of Science; Professor Dr. Md. Enamul Haque, Dean, Faculty of Biological Sciences; Professor Dr. Shakila Nargis Khan, Chairperson, Department of Microbiology; Professor Saifuddin Ahmad, Proctor; Dr. Muha. Abdullah Al Mahmud, Associate Professor, Department of World Religions and Culture; TİKA Bangladesh Coordinator Muhammed Ali Armağan; Dr. Mohammad Tanvir Ali, Chief Medical Officer of Shaheed Buddhijibi Dr. Mohammad Mortaza Medical Centre; as well as officials from several university offices.

Advancing Research for Public Benefit:  In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor emphasized that Dhaka University remains committed to making research facilities and scientific expertise accessible for public benefit. He expressed sincere gratitude to TİKA’s South Asia Regional Coordination team, noting that such cooperation opens doors for future academic and technological opportunities. The event was administered by the Public Relations Office of the University of Dhaka.
