Leading global AI device ecosystem brand HONOR has officially inaugurated its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Bangladesh, marking its official entry into local production, a press release said.

The launch ceremony was held on December 02, 2025, at the Hi-Tech Park in Kaliakair, Gazipur, attended by senior government officials, HONOR leaders, and representatives from Smart Technologies.

With the opening of this facility, HONOR is taking a major step towards localizing production in Bangladesh, as devices assembled here will soon be available under the ‘Made in Bangladesh’ label.

This factory is designed to set new benchmarks in manufacturing excellence by integrating global AI innovation with local manufacturing expertise in Bangladesh.

HONOR, known for integrating advanced AI technologies into its smart devices, has applied the same approach to the production floor. The factory uses AI-supported automation across key stages of assembly, helping ensure greater precision, steady output, and an overall more efficient manufacturing process.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by distinguished guests including Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology; Shish Haider Chowdhury, Secretary, ICT Division; Md. Nurannabi, Director, BTRC; Md. Mamunur Rashid Bhuiyan, Managing Director, Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority; and Mohammad Zahirul Islam, Managing Director of Smart Technologies.

George Zheng, President of Southeast Asia, and Derrick Deng, President of Supply Chain Management (Global), represented HONOR at the event. From the Bangladesh team, Lang Guo, the Country Manager; Abdullah Al Mamun, Head of Business; and Muzahidul Islam, Deputy Country Manager, attended the event.

At the initial stage, the facility will operate a single production line with a daily capacity of 1,500 units. HONOR plans to expand operations to four production lines within the first year, significantly scaling up output to meet growing demand.

Addressing the event, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb stressed the importance of digital transformation and the need to expand access to devices and jobs.

“Bangladesh is standing at a critical moment in its digital transformation journey, where we must reduce the skill gap, expand device access, and create quality employment for our youth. Through this inauguration, Smart and HONOR have kept their promise to create meaningful jobs in this country.”

He also highlighted how the HONOR–Smart factory lines will support employment and entrepreneurship.

“The factory line is really employment-friendly; one line has already begun and by next year four lines will be operational. This will create significant skilled employment, help transfer knowledge, and encourage new entrepreneurs to develop backward and forward linkages around this industry, added Taiyeb.

Regarding policy reforms, he said the government is preparing measures to strengthen the local device market.

“We will soon activate NEIR to tackle illegal smartphone imports and revise the duty structure so local manufacturing remains more attractive than imports. Data prices will also fall as we expand connectivity through the third and fourth submarine cables, “he further added.

He added that digital governance frameworks will build investor trust and expand smartphone penetration. He said, “Our cyber policy, data protection policy and data governance framework will ensure compliance with regional and global standards and strengthen public trust in the digital ecosystem. With the right incentives, smartphone penetration can rise from 40 percent to 70 or even 80 percent in the coming years.”

Speaking at the inauguration, George Zheng, President of HONOR Southeast Asia Region, emphasized the company’s vision for Bangladesh.

“This factory is more than a physical structure. It is a symbol of a partnership between our organization and the Government of Bangladesh — between global expertise and local capability. We aim not only to create jobs, but to build an environment where skills can flourish, technology can advance and communities can thrive. As we open these doors today, we reaffirm our pledge to uphold the highest standards of safety, sustainability and integrity, “said George Zheng.

“HONOR phones have already received strong market feedback, and users want them at more affordable prices. That is why we set up this factory. Our initial production capacity is 60,000 units, and we will expand it as demand grows. This factory is not only machines and brick walls; it is a statement of vision. It shows that Bangladesh is already on the path of transformation, that we are moving beyond dependence on a single export-oriented industry, and that Bangladesh can become a global technology manufacturing hub, “Mohammad Zahirul Islam, Managing Director, Smart Technologies (BD) Limited, said.

Since officially entering the Bangladesh market in late 2023, HONOR has rapidly emerged as one of the popular smartphone brands, holding about 3% of the market share in the country. The number is expected to reach 10% next year, according to officials.

The establishment of this AI-driven factory is expected to create significant employment opportunities, enhance technical skills among the local workforce, and accelerate technology transfer. The facility will also contribute to reducing import dependence and strengthening Bangladesh’s position in the global electronics supply chain.
