DIU hosts successful TESOL conference

The 3rd TESOL BD–DIU International Conference 2025 is concluding successfully today, 5–6 December 2025, at Daffodil International University (DIU), in collaboration with British Council Bangladesh, the U.S. Embassy Dhaka, IATEFL, and TESOL International Association. The two-day international academic gathering is bringing together leading national and global experts under the theme “Bridging Divides: Human-Centred Language Education in the Age of AI and Social Transformation.”

The opening ceremony is being graced by Professor Dr Sayeedur Rahman, Convenor of the conference; Dr Ehatasham Ul Hoque Eiten, Co-convenor; Md Hamidul Haque, President of TESOL Society of Bangladesh; Stephen Forbes, Country Director, British Council Bangladesh; Scott Hartmann, Director of Public Engagement, U.S. Embassy Dhaka; Christopher Graham, President & Chair, Board of Trustees, IATEFL; Dr Justin Shewell, President, TESOL International Association; Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic), University of Dhaka; and Professor Dr M R Kabir, Vice Chancellor, Daffodil International University. The inaugural session is also featuring the launch of TESOL BD Journal (Volume 2) and the presentation of Lifetime Achievement Awards to Professor Dil Afroze Quader, Dr Rubina Khan, and Professor M Shahidullah.

Over the two days, the conference is hosting keynote speeches, plenaries, invited colloquia, thematic workshops, and parallel paper presentations. Dr Gary Motteram (University of Manchester) and Dr Lilian W Mina (University of Alabama at Birmingham) are delivering the keynote addresses. Plenary sessions are being led by Professor Dr Mohammad Azhar (City University of New York); Professor Dr Muhammed Shahriar Haque (East West University); Professor Mashrur Shahid Hossain (Jahangirnagar University); Professor Sabiha Huq (BRAC University & Khulna University); and Professor Dr Shamsad Mortuza (University of Dhaka).

Invited colloquia are being conducted by Dr Mohammad Shams Ud Duha, Professor Amy C Bradshaw, Dr Taslima Irine Ivy, Dr Susan Robertson, Dr Martyn Edwards, and Dr Skye Zhao. Numerous national and international experts are also conducting specialized workshops aligned with the conference theme.

The conference is concluding with a high-level policy panel moderated by Dr Mohammad Raihan Sharif, featuring Dr Gary Motteram, Dr Lilian W Mina, Dr Ahmedul Kabir, Professor Dr Sayeedur Rahman, and Md Hamidul Haque. The panel is engaging in an in-depth discussion on the future of English language education in Bangladesh amid rapid AI integration and global academic shifts.
