BASIS IT exporters’ night 2026 held marking achievements and policy dialogue

The progress, achievements, and future roadmap of Bangladesh’s information technology export sector were highlighted and celebrated at BASIS IT Exporters’ Night 2026, held on Tuesday (27 January 2026) evening at a leading hotel in the capital. The prestigious event was organized by the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) in collaboration with the Business Promotion Bureau, a press release said.

The program brought together leading IT and IT-enabled services (ITES) exporters, policymakers, entrepreneurs, diplomats from different countries, and industry leaders. The objective of the event was to reflect on the 28-year journey of Bangladesh’s IT export sector, showcase its global reach, and outline strategic priorities for the years ahead.

At the event, BASIS awarded the top 10 IT and ITES exporting companies of FY 2024–25 for their significant contribution to the country’s export earnings. The awarded companies were BJIT Limited, Brain Station 23 Limited, ULKASEMI Private Limited, SELISE Digital Platforms, Cefalo Bangladesh Limited, Samsung R&D Institute Bangladesh Limited, Enosis Solutions, Therap (BD) Limited, Radiant Data Systems Limited, and Data Path Limited. These companies are delivering high-value services across software development, artificial intelligence, research and development, fintech, healthtech, and other advanced technology domains, strengthening Bangladesh’s position in global markets.

Speakers at the event noted that BASIS member companies are currently exporting software and IT services to more than 104 countries worldwide. In FY 2024–25, nearly 500 BASIS member companies were involved in export activities, of which around 300 were regular exporters. The United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Canada remain the top ten destinations for Bangladesh’s IT exports.

A significant panel discussion was held at the event focusing on the prospects and challenges of information technology (IT) exports for economic diversification. The panel featured Julian Andrin Weber, Managing Director of SELISE Bangladesh Limited; Raisul Kabir, Chief Executive Officer of Brain Station 23 PLC; Ferdous Mahmud Shaon, Managing Director of Cefalo Bangladesh Ltd.; and Morikawa Yuko, Senior Representative of JICA Bangladesh.

The speakers emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts among policymakers, the financial sector, and the private sector to expand IT exports. The panel discussion was moderated by Mushfiqur Rahman and Rashed Kamal, members of the BASIS Associate Committee.

At the opening of the event, Mustafa Rafiqul Islam DUKE, founding member of BASIS and member of the BASIS Associate Committee, said, “BASIS began with a dream and a commitment to position Bangladesh’s IT sector strongly in the global market. Today, we proudly say that this dream has become a reality, and our IT industry is steadily securing a strong presence internationally.”

He added, “BASIS IT Exporters Night 2026 is not just an awards ceremony; it marks a significant milestone in BASIS’s journey. It is an occasion to celebrate past achievements, understand the present realities, and collectively commit to shaping the future of our IT sector.”

Rowshan Kamal James, convener of BASIS IT Exporters Night 2026 and member of the BASIS Associate Committee, said, “Bangladesh’s IT and IT-enabled Services (ITES) sector has now entered a vital phase of tangible success, not just potential. The primary aim of BASIS IT Exporters Night 2026 is to appropriately recognize the country’s top IT exporters and highlight their success stories to inspire new entrepreneurs and emerging companies.”

He further emphasized, “This event will play a vital role in expanding the IT sector’s market reach, promoting new international partnerships, and strengthening effective dialogue between policymakers and industry stakeholders. These efforts will accelerate the sustainable growth of Bangladesh’s IT export sector in the years to come.”

Speaking as the Chief Guest, hish Haider Chowdhury, ndc, Secretary, ICT Division, said, “The IT and ITES sector has now emerged as a major driver of Bangladesh’s economy. Thanks to a skilled workforce, the innovative capacity of entrepreneurs, and timely policy support from the government, this sector is steadily strengthening its position in international markets. The government is prioritizing IT as an export-oriented industry and providing comprehensive policy support, including cash incentives, skill development, and measures to facilitate access to global markets, thereby enhancing the sector’s export potential.”

He further added, “Initiatives like BASIS IT Exporters’ Night 2026 not only recognize the country’s top IT exporters but also inspire emerging companies and strengthen public–private partnerships. I hope such initiatives will accelerate market expansion and sustainable growth for Bangladesh’s IT industry.”

In his remarks as the Chair, Abul Khair Mohammad Hafizullah Khan, Joint Secretary, Local Government Division and BASIS Administrator, said, “BASIS started its journey with just 18 member companies, and today our membership has crossed 2,700. BASIS members are the driving force behind Bangladesh’s IT exports. BASIS IT Exporters’ Night 2026 is not only a celebration; it is a platform to review our achievements, identify current challenges, and define future strategies.”

He added, “Cash incentives, tax exemptions, human capital development, and access to international markets—these four pillars will continue to shape the next phase of growth for Bangladesh’s IT export sector.”

The event also featured remarks from Dr. Md. Razzaqul Islam, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Director (Export Wing), Business Promotion Council; Gayle Martin, Operations Manager for Bangladesh and Bhutan, World Bank; and Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Managing Director and CEO of Mutual Trust Bank PLC.
