The Global Bangladeshi Alliance (GBA), representing a broad network of Non-Resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific, extends its sincere congratulations to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on forming the government following the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
GBA also warmly congratulates Tarique Rahman on taking the oath as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. We wish him success in leading the nation with vision, integrity, and a strong commitment to democratic governance, economic growth, meritocracy, and inclusive development.
This transition presents a significant opportunity to strengthen democratic institutions, accelerate economic progress, and deepen Bangladesh’s engagement with its global diaspora. With more than 20 million Bangladeshis living and working abroad, the Non-Residential Bangladeshi (NRB) community remains one of the country’s most valuable strategic assets—contributing billions of dollars in remittances annually, facilitating trade and investment, and serving as ambassadors of Bangladesh’s talent and entrepreneurship worldwide.
From the NRB perspective, this new chapter offers a timely opportunity to institutionalize diaspora participation in national development. GBA respectfully proposes the following priority areas for consideration:
- Inclusion of Qualified NRB Technocrats in Government
Appointing experienced diaspora professionals to technocratic ministerial or senior advisory roles would bring global expertise, innovation, and best practices into key sectors of national importance. - Representation of Diaspora Experts in the Upper House or Policy Bodies
Including accomplished NRB subject-matter experts in a future upper chamber of parliament or equivalent national policy institutions would strengthen governance, encourage knowledge transfer, and support evidence-based policymaking. There should be policy advisors from the NRB community at different levels of the government. - Priority Sectors for Diaspora Engagement
Key areas where NRB professionals can contribute meaningfully include education, healthcare, agriculture, investment and capital markets, technology and digital infrastructure, and workforce-oriented vocational training. - Expansion of Overseas Voter Registration
GBA encourages coordinated initiatives to expand voter registration among Bangladeshis abroad, ensuring that the voices of the global diaspora are meaningfully represented in the democratic process.
The NRB community stands ready to work constructively with the new government, public institutions, and all stakeholders to support national priorities, attract global investment, develop future-ready skills, and strengthen Bangladesh’s international partnerships.
