North South University (NSU) hosted the “2026 Chinese Culture Night” in a vibrant and festive atmosphere, bringing together more than 1,000 guests to celebrate cultural exchange and friendship between Bangladesh and China on 02 March 2026 (Monday) at NSU Plaza Area, a press release said.

The event was jointly organised by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bangladesh and NSU and co-hosted by the Confucius Institute at North South University and the Bangladesh–China Alumni Association.

The evening featured two thematic segments: a cultural experience titled “Blessed Horses Welcome Spring” and a culinary exchange under the theme “Flavours of Ramadan, Shared Understanding.” Through immersive performances, interactive cultural activities, and shared dining, participants explored the richness of Chinese traditions while celebrating the shared values that connect the peoples of Bangladesh and China.

In her welcome remarks, Ma Xiaoyan, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at NSU, noted that this year’s celebration uniquely brought together the Chinese New Year, the Lantern Festival, and the holy month of Ramadan. She extended her wishes for peace, prosperity, and happiness to Chinese and Bangladeshi friends alike.

Dr Liu Yuyin, Minister Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh, described the event as a meaningful platform for cultural dialogue. Highlighting shared values such as family, hope, and respect for faith, he reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and deepening people-to-people ties.

Bobby Hajjaj, State Minister for Education of Bangladesh, commended China’s achievements in education, particularly in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and technical-vocational training. He emphasised the importance of such cooperation in equipping Bangladeshi youth with skills for global opportunities and expressed hope for continued educational and cultural collaboration.

Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of NSU, underscored the importance of hosting international cultural events on campus, noting that Chinese New Year celebrations provide students and faculty with valuable opportunities to experience global cultures firsthand. Prof. Nasar U. Ahmed, Pro Vice-Chancellor of NSU, added that such vibrant celebrations strengthen institutional and cultural ties between Bangladesh and China.

Dr Md. Shahabul Haque, General Secretary of the Bangladesh–China Alumni Association, described the evening as both a celebration of the Chinese New Year and a bridge of enduring friendship between the two nations.

Distinguished guests included senior representatives from the Chinese Embassy, NSU leadership, academic institutions, and alumni associations. The lively participation of students, faculty members, diplomats, and community leaders reflected the strong and growing cultural partnership between Bangladesh and China.

The 2026 Chinese Culture Night once again demonstrated the role of cultural diplomacy and educational collaboration in fostering mutual understanding. Through shared traditions, dialogue, and celebration, the event reaffirmed the enduring friendship between the two countries and the Confucius Institute at NSU’s commitment to promoting intercultural engagement.
