A MoU has been signed between Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Bangladesh Brand Forum (BBF) to re-establish Bangladesh’s ready-made garment industry as a modern, sustainable and innovation-driven sector in the global market. The MoU signing ceremony was held today (Thursday) at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, the capital, a press release said.
The main objective of this collaboration is to implement the strategic vision titled “From Factory Nation to Innovation Nation – Reimagining Bangladesh Apparel 2030”. Through this agreement, both parties will work together to showcase Bangladesh’s garment sector as a modern, responsible and green industry globally and transform the narrative of the industry.
BGMEA Vice President (Finance) Mizanur Rahman and BBF Founder and Managing Director Shariful Islam signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by BGMEA Director Shah Raeed Chowdhury, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Branding Khan Monirul Alam (Shubh), Chairman of the Standing Committee on Promotion and Publication Masud Kabir, and Chairman of the Standing Committee on Trade Fairs and Events M Sajedul Karim, among others.
The key aspects of the MoU are:
To develop a global promotion and branding strategy to transform Bangladesh’s garment sector from a ‘factory nation’ to an ‘innovation nation’.
To establish a special innovation lab in BGMEA to address key issues in the industry by involving young innovators.
Launch a dedicated Leadership Academy to enhance the skills of mid- and senior-level executives in the industry and develop women leaders.
Conduct Youth Fest, Campus Ambassador Program and organize national level competitions to encourage talented young innovators and students to pursue careers in this industry.
Create various knowledge reports and case studies to promote the success of eco-friendly factories and achieve sustainable development goals.
Establish direct links between green factories and Japanese brands to strengthen their global position and create a global sustainable fashion brand by combining designers from both countries. In addition, ensure BGMEA’s presence at major international platforms like Cannes Lions, so that Bangladesh is recognized as a hub for a modern and eco-friendly garment industry worldwide.
Provide BGMEA members with experience in modern branding, retail and digital marketing by participating in various BBF summits and regular platforms.
Under the MoU, BBF will work on strategic branding consultancy, knowledge sharing and visibility of BGMEA on various national and international platforms. On the other hand, BGMEA will support the success of this initiative through industry information, expert advice and participation of member institutions.
Both parties hope that through this two-year partnership, the confidence of foreign buyers and investors in the garment sector of Bangladesh will increase and Bangladesh will be able to establish itself as a world-class innovative garment hub by 2030.
