Eastern University marks Independence, National Day with dignity

Eastern University celebrated Independence and National Day 2026 with due dignity and deep respect. On the occasion of the day, a discussion meeting was organized on the university premises on the morning of March 26 (Thursday) by hoisting the national flag and commemorating the martyrs, a press release said.

The day’s activities began with the hoisting of the national flag and the playing of the national anthem, paying deep respect to the brave martyrs who sacrificed themselves in the great liberation war. Important speeches were made at the discussion meeting on the spirit of the great liberation war, the country’s development progress and the responsibilities and tasks of the new generation.

Dean of the Faculty of Technology and Engineering of Eastern University, Professor Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman, spoke as the chief guest on the occasion. In his speech, he called on the young generation to come forward to build a humane, developed and prosperous Bangladesh by embodying the original spirit of independence. He also said that Independence Day is a glorious chapter in our national life. The struggle for independence that began on this day in 1971 turned into a final victory through a long nine-month bloody war. This day reminds us of the invaluable achievement of our independence and inspires us to develop ourselves as responsible citizens towards the country.

Also present at the event were Head of the Law Department Mohammad Mamunur Rashid, Additional Director of IQAC Associate Professor Dr. Iqbal Mahmud, Deputy Registrar Farid Hossain, Head of Human Resources Department G.M. Nafiun Hossain, along with heads of various departments, teachers, officers and employees.

The event was hosted by Member Secretary of the Independence and National Day Celebration Committee and Deputy Director of the Student Affairs and Placement Department K.M. Monirul Islam.
