Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. (APSEZ), India’s largest integrated port developer and operator, has crossed the landmark milestone of 500 million tonnes of cargo handled, the company announced on Wednesday (April 1), a press release said.
The Adani Group subsidiary is now stepping ahead with an ambitious target of handling one billion tonnes of cargo annually by 2030.
Founded in 1998 with a single port, APSEZ has grown into a vast network of 19 ports and terminals over nearly three decades. Backed by an extensive logistics platform covering rail, road, warehousing and multimodal transport connectivity, the company has established itself as an indispensable pillar of India’s commercial infrastructure.
Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani described the achievement as a reflection of the company’s long-standing commitment to India’s economic potential. “Ports are not merely gateways for trade, they are gateways to national confidence, competitiveness and destiny,” he said.
The company’s logistics network connects 95 percent of India’s hinterland. With an annual handling capacity of 633 million tonnes, APSEZ controls roughly 28 percent of India’s total port volumes.
On the global stage, five of APSEZ’s ports have been featured in the World Bank’s Container Port Performance Index 2024. The company has also secured a place among the top five percent of global transportation firms in the 2025 S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment.
