Tension and unrest have intensified within the Fatullah Deed Writers and Stamp Vendors Association centering the upcoming election. Allegations have been raised against the association’s General Secretary, Md. Rafiqul Islam, for removing several members from an official WhatsApp group after they expressed demands for a fair election.
Sources said that members who posted messages in the group calling for a transparent election were subsequently removed, triggering discontent among fellow deed writers.
Several members of the association stated that internal disagreements had been ongoing for a long time over the issue of elections. Recently, those disputes spilled over into digital platforms, further escalating the situation. Witnesses claimed that Rafiqul Islam reacted angrily and took abrupt action by removing protesting members from the group.
Meanwhile, Md. Sanaullah, brother-in-law of Rafiqul Islam, alleged that a three-member influential group effectively controls the association, with Rafiqul Islam acting as the key decision-maker. “Most decisions are taken unilaterally by him, and he does not tolerate any challenge to his authority,” he said.
The incident has drawn mixed reactions from general members. While some view it as a personal dispute, others believe it reflects longstanding internal conflicts within the association.
Attempts to contact Md. Rafiqul Islam for his comments were unsuccessful.
On condition of anonymity, several deed writers alleged that no direct ভোট-based election has been held in the association for a long time. Instead, committees were reportedly formed through a selection process led by Rafiqul Islam.
With the election approaching, concerns are growing among stakeholders about how the internal tensions may impact the electoral process. Concerned members have called for necessary steps to ensure a free, fair, and credible election.
