Eastern University wins ATN Bangla shadow parliament debate

Eastern University has emerged as the Champion of the ATN Bangla Shadow Parliament Debate Competition, held on April 11, 2026, by defeating Government Teachers’ Training College in a highly competitive final round, a press release said.

The competition, organized by Debate for Democracy, was conducted in a vibrant and festive atmosphere with the enthusiastic participation of students from various institutions. The motion for this year’s debate was: “Increasing revenue income should be the main strategy in the upcoming budget to ensure economic security.”

Renowned economist and former Director of the Human Development Report Office of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Professor Dr. Selim Jahan, attended the program as the Chief Guest. The session was chaired by Hasan Ahmed Kiron, President of Debate for Democracy.

Representing Eastern University, the champion team comprised Kaniz Fatema Ritu, Fatema Tuj Johura, and Daliya Soikot. The team demonstrated exceptional debating skills, strong arguments, and outstanding teamwork to secure the championship title.

Also present at the event were Meherba Sabrin, Coordinator of the Eastern University Debating Club and Lecturer of the Department of Law; K.M. Monirul Islam, Deputy Director of Student Affairs and Placement; Md. Mohiuddin Majumder, Assistant Director of Public Relations; and Syed Sabet Ibne Mahmud, President of the Eastern University Debating Club, along with a large number of students.

This remarkable achievement marks a proud moment for Eastern University and reflects the dedication, talent, and intellectual excellence of its students. The victory further highlights the importance of nurturing critical thinking and public speaking skills among young learners.
