With the patronage of bKash, The Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) organized a vibrant Pahela Baishakh celebration at Hatirjheel, welcoming the Bengali New Year in a lively and festive setting. The celebration featured a variety of programs including cultural performances, traditional boat racing and a colorful fair, a press release said.
The two-day-long Baishakh celebration was inaugurated by the State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahammad Sohel Monzoor and the Chairman of The Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha
(RAJUK) Engineer Md. Reazul Islam.
The New Year celebrations began in the morning at the Hatirjheel open stage with a melodious note where artists welcomed the Bengali New Year with a chorus of Baishakhi songs, setting the tone for a day steeped in festivity. As the morning progressed, various cultural groups took the stage with lively musical performances. By afternoon, the atmosphere took on a rustic charm with soulful Baul music, paving the way for the day’s biggest attraction, the traditional boat race. Featuring ten teams from different regions, the competition turned Hatirjheel into a spectacle of energy and excitement as synchronized rowing and spirited cheers filled the air.
Throughout the day, performances by various cultural organizations, including music, dances, and drama captivated visitors. From evening until night, concerts and entertaining cultural programs continued. Alongside these events, a Baishakhi fair was held in a rural setting, featuring a wide variety of traditional products and food items.
At the end of the festival, guests distributed prizes among the winners and participants of the boat race competition.
