BGMEA mourns death of Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman

Mahmud Hasan Khan, President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the untimely demise of Mahbubur Rahman, Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, a press release said.

In a condolence message, the BGMEA President said, “Late Mahbubur Rahman was a very talented, hardworking and visionary state official. His contribution to achieving economic prosperity of the country and expanding international trade and overcoming adversities is undeniable.”

He further said that Mahbubur Rahman played an important role in addressing the challenges after the transition from LDC and in formulating bilateral trade agreements with various countries.  His wisdom and strong leadership in protecting Bangladesh’s interests, especially in the negotiations on the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with Japan and in the multilateral conferences of the World Trade Organization (WTO), are highly commendable.

The BGMEA President mentioned that his skillful negotiation to maintain duty-free benefits in the international market will be remembered in the history of the country’s export trade and will be considered as an important supporting force for the garment industry.

BGMEA believes that in his untimely demise, the country has lost a dedicated and patriotic official, whose void will not be easily filled.

The organization prays for the eternal peace of the departed soul and expresses its deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
