The final results of the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) biennial elections for the 2026-2028 term have been officially announced. The Election Commission announced the results at around 8 pm on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, after the hearing of the Appeal Board. Since there were no changes, the previously published preliminary results were retained as the final results. Immediately after the results were announced, the newly elected leaders officially took office, which is being considered as the beginning of a new journey for the organization.
Earlier, voting was held in a peaceful atmosphere throughout the day on Saturday, April 18. After the voting, the Election Commission completed the vote counting manually until late at night. The preliminary results were announced at around 1:00 am, which were later approved as the final results after verification.
In the announced results, Dr. Md. Ali Afzal won the post of president by getting 232 votes. Abdur Razzak was elected as Senior Vice President with 216 votes. Mohammad Akhter Biswas won the post of Vice President-1 with 250 votes, Abu Khalid Md. Barkatullah won the post of Vice President-2 with 255 votes and A.F.M. Ubaidullah won the post of Vice President-3 with 234 votes. Dr. Md. Harun Or Rashid was elected as Vice President-Finance with the highest number of 262 votes.
Mohammad Morshedul Hasan won the post of Vice President of Chittagong Region with 317 votes. Muhammad Labib Billah won the post of Director with 338 votes, achieving the top position among all the candidates. Umme Jahan Arju and Habibur Rahman Habib secured the second and third positions respectively with 304 votes for the post of Director. The other directors elected include— A.Z.M. Kamruddin, Captain Md. Shah Alam, Md. Khwaja Nazibullah, Sheikh Kamal, Md. Emdadul Hossain Sohel, Dr. N. Joha, Alhaj Professor Md. Faruk Ahmed, Tasnova Mahbub Salam, Md. Zahir Ahmed, Md. Zahid Hossain, Engineer Md. Mostafa Kamal, Md. Emdadul Haque, Md. Mahbubur Rahman, M Fakhrul Islam, Engineer Manjurul Farhad Philip, Suruj Sardar and Alhaj Golam Kibria Majumder.
Two directors have been elected from the Chittagong region – ASM Abdul Gaffar Miyaji and Sarist Binte Nur. In addition, six members of the Rehab Chittagong Regional Committee have been elected. They are Nur Mohammad, Eng. SK Nazim Uddin, Syed Irfanul Alam, Ashish Roy Chowdhury, Hrishikesh Chowdhury and SM Shahidullah.
In this election, a total of three panels and a single candidate contested for the post of president. The three panels are Progressive Housing Business Council, Housing Business Unity Council and Jagran Panel. The results show that “Progressive Housing Business Council” won a total of 15 posts including President, Senior Vice President, Vice President (Finance), Vice President-2, Vice President-3 and 10 directors. On the other hand, “Housing Business Unity Council” won a total of 14 posts including Vice President-1, Vice President (Chittagong) and 12 director posts. However, no candidate from Jagran Panel could win.
The newly formed committee has expressed its determination to work with a new vision for the overall development of the housing sector. They have said that they will prioritize solving the long-standing problems of the housing sector by taking coordinated initiatives with all the relevant parties including developers, buyers and investors. At the same time, the leaders have also mentioned plans to take effective steps to amend the construction rules, remove policy complications, bring registration costs to a rational level and increase the opportunities for obtaining bank loans.
One of the goals of the new committee is to take the initiative to build a modern and own building for REHAB, which will give a more dynamic and institutional basis to the organization’s activities. In addition, there are plans to launch various service activities for the welfare of members, increase training, networking opportunities and provide business support. The leaders expressed hope that REHAB will become more dynamic under the new committee through coordinated initiatives, visionary leadership and effective planning. Through these initiatives, it will be possible to build a member-friendly, effective and strong REHAB, which will further advance the housing sector and will also play an important role in the economic development of the country.
