A young woman (18) was gang-raped in two stages on her way from her aunt’s house to her cousin’s house in Anwara Upazila of Chittagong. A case was filed with Anwara Police Station on Saturday (May 2) night, accusing four people in the incident.
The accused are – Abu Taher (42), son of Abdul Mannan of Moyna Gazi’s house in Raipur Union, Rabiul Hossain Prakash Chumkia (24), son of Abdur Noor of Purba Gahira Notun, Md. Faruk (23), son of Azizul Haque of Haria Para area of Purba Gahira, and Anwar Hossain (22), son of Mohammad Hossain of the same area.
According to the police and the case report, the young woman left her aunt’s house for her cousin’s house at around 10 pm last Monday (April 27). On the way, when the accused number 1 reached in front of Abu Taher’s grocery shop, the accused forcibly dragged her inside the shop. She was held there from 10 pm to 4 am and raped multiple times.
Around 4 am, three local youths, Rabiul Hossain alias Chumkia, Md. Faruk and Anwar Hossain, came to know about the matter. Then Abu Taher handed over the victim to the three. Then, they took the victim to a nearby beel by intimidating her. There, the three raped her in turn until 5 am on Tuesday, the statement said.
The victim went to her house the next morning and informed her mother about the matter. Then, on Saturday morning, the victim’s mother filed a case with Anwara Police Station under the Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Act.
When asked, Anwara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Junayet Chowdhury told the media that the incident is being investigated with great seriousness. After the case, multiple police teams have started operations to arrest the accused.
