REHAB leaders meet housing minister, seek cooperation

The newly elected leaders of the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) paid a courtesy call on Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher Suman with the aim of overall development of the country’s housing sector, ensuring affordable housing and developing modern urban management, a press release said.

During the meeting, a detailed discussion was held on the current challenges of the housing sector, investment situation and issues of ensuring affordable housing for the common people. REHAB leaders highlighted the need for the government’s policy support for the sustainable development of the sector. Narayanganj-1 constituency MP Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan (Dipu) was present in the meeting. Housing and Public Works Secretary Md. Nazrul Islam was present in the meeting.

The current President of REHAB Dr. Ali Afzal said, “The housing sector is making an important contribution to the country’s economy. But currently, this sector is facing challenges due to various policy complications, high construction costs and financing crisis. We hope that with effective cooperation from the government, this sector will become more dynamic and it will be possible to ensure affordable housing for the common people.”

He also said that in order to move the housing sector forward in a planned manner, it is necessary to increase the opportunities for long-term policy support and financing on easy terms.

The Minister of Housing and Public Works said, “The housing sector is an important part of the country’s urbanization and economic growth. The government is sincere in developing this sector and has already undertaken various plans. A modern, sustainable and people-friendly housing system will be developed through coordination with REHAB.” He further said that the government will continue to provide necessary policy support to ensure affordable housing for the common people.

Rehab Senior Vice President Abdur Razzak, Vice President-2 Abu Khalid Mohammad Barkat Ullah, Vice President-3 AFM Obaidullah, Vice President (Finance) Dr. Md. Harun Or Rashid, Director Tasnuva Mahbub Salam and REHAB member representative MGR Nasir were present at the time.

After the meeting, both sides expressed their hope to work together for the development of the housing sector.
