Universal Medical College Hospital will host the “Gorobini Ma 2026” award ceremony in Dhaka on Sunday to mark World Mother’s Day and honour mothers whose children have made remarkable contributions in different sectors of society.
The programme will begin at 11:00am 10 May Sunday at Hall-2 of the RAOWA Convention Center in Mohakhali.
The event has been organised as a social initiative to recognise the role of mothers behind the success of distinguished personalities in fields such as administration, law, education, medicine, journalism, engineering, music and acting.
Professor Dr. A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain, MP, Minister of Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs, will attend the programme as chief guest. Engineer Ashraf Uddin Bokul, MP from Narsingdi-5, will join as special guest.
Priti Chakraborty, chairman of Universal Medical College Hospital and senior vice-president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), will preside over the event. Dr. Ashish Kumar Chakraborty, managing director of the hospital, is the chief initiator of the programme.
Several mothers will be honoured at the ceremony, including Begum Farhat Islam, Begum Rokeya Rashid, Selima Haque, Saraswati Prasad and Syeda Sharmin, in recognition of their contributions in raising and supporting children who have gone on to serve society with distinction.
Organisers said the programme aims to celebrate the sacrifices, dedication and inspiration of mothers whose encouragement and values have helped shape successful individuals across different professions.
Guests attending the event have been requested to carry their invitation cards, which are non-transferable and valid for one person only. Organisers have also requested attendees not to bring children under the age of 10.
