Dhaka celebrates Russia’s 81st victory anniversary

Like every year, the Russian House in Dhaka has organized various day-long programs in the capital Dhaka to mark the 81st anniversary of Russia’s victory in World War II. The Russian Embassy in Dhaka has assisted in implementing this program.

The program began yesterday, Saturday (May 9), with the ‘Immortal Regiment’ procession at the premises of the Russian Embassy in Bangladesh. Participants in this procession remembered their predecessors who fought for independence.

All those present at the program wore the ‘Ribbon of Saint George’, a symbol of military valor and memory.

At the beginning of the formal part, Russian House Director Alexandra Khelvonoy, ‘Rodina’ Association President Elena Bass, Soviet Alumni Association Bangladesh General Secretary Mohammad Sirajul Islam and Liberation War Academy Trust Chairman Dr. Abul Kalam Azad spoke.

The main attraction of the event was the Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Alexander G. Khozin. He inaugurated a colorful rally of motorcycles and vehicles.

The rally, decorated with the Russian flag and symbols of Victory Day, ended at the Russian House after circumambulating the Gulshan area. Later, the ‘Wall of Memory’ was inaugurated and a cultural program was organized at the Russian House. During the event, young artists performed traditional dances along with the song ‘Kalinka’. In addition, various historical and patriotic songs were performed.

In the literary segment, Russian poems ‘Requiem’ and ‘Wait for Me’ were recited.

A video was shown in memory of the war martyrs at the event. Later, members of the ‘Rodina’ Association remembered the lost relatives of their families and paid tribute by placing flowers at the ‘Wall of Memory’.

The day-long event ended with a musical performance.

The organizers said that this event not only honored the memory of the great victory, but also strengthened the cultural ties between Bangladesh and Russia.

Every year, on May 9, Russia’s Victory Day is celebrated in Dhaka with great solemnity and colorful events.
