In an effort to strengthen teaching effectiveness, research capacity, and overall academic excellence in higher education, a two-day international workshop titled “Essentials of University Academics in Contemporary World: Building Teaching Capability and Developing Research Skills” was jointly organized by Educators Without Borders International (EWBI), Geneva, and the Human Resource Development Institute (HRDI) of Daffodil International University (DIU). The workshop was held on May 18–19, 2026 at Daffodil Plaza, a press release said.
A total of 82 university teachers and academics from 16 public and private universities in Dhaka and Chattogram participated in the program. Renowned academics, researchers, and experts from Australia, Malaysia, and Bangladesh served as resource persons in various sessions.
The inaugural session was graced by Professor Dr. Md. Saidur Rahman, Honorable Member of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, as Chief Guest. The session was chaired by Professor Dr. Mohammad Masum Iqbal, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University. The welcome address was delivered by Tahsina Yasmin, Acting Director of HRDI. Mouza Al Jabi, Executive Director of EWBI, attended as Guest of Honor.
Throughout the two-day workshop, participants engaged in in-depth discussions on modern teaching methodologies, curriculum development, research design, academic writing, publication strategies, and international research collaboration. The sessions provided participants with hands-on learning opportunities and practical insights to enhance their academic and research practices.
Notable speakers included Emeritus Professor Dr. Shahjahan Khan OAM from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia; Professor Dato’ Dr. Mohamad Fauzan Noordin of International Islamic University Malaysia; Professor Dr. Yiarul Kabir, Vice Chancellor of Jashore University of Science and Technology; and Professor Dr. Shamshuddin Ahmed from the Military Institute of Science and Technology.
The speakers emphasized that in a rapidly evolving global academic landscape, university educators must go beyond classroom teaching and develop competencies in research, innovation, international collaboration, and knowledge-based leadership. Special focus was given to building strong research cultures in higher education institutions and adopting student-centered, outcome-based, and technology-driven teaching approaches.
The closing ceremony was attended by Professor Dr. Mohammad Anowar Hossain, Honorable Member of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, as Chief Guest. The session was chaired by Emeritus Professor Dr. Shahjahan Khan OAM. Professor Dr. Mohammad Masum Iqbal also attended as Special Guest.
Participants highly appreciated the quality of sessions, the international standard of training, and the opportunity to engage with experienced global resource persons. The workshop concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony.
The organizers stated that EWBI and HRDI, DIU will continue to promote similar international initiatives in the future to enhance academic and professional excellence in higher education. They further expressed hope that such programs will significantly contribute to strengthening research capacity, improving teaching quality, and expanding international academic collaboration in Bangladesh.
