North South University’s (NSU) School of Health and Life Sciences (SHLS) organizes a seminar titled “Career Opportunities in Bangladesh’s Pharmaceutical Industry”on Tuesday at the NSU Syndicate Hall. The seminar emphasized the vast career opportunities available to aspiring professionals across the country and beyond as Bangladesh’s pharmaceutical sector experiences a continual dynamic growth, a press release said.
Ikhtiar Hossain, executive director, Eskayef Pharmaceuticals Ltd and Dr. Dipak Kumar Mitra, professor & dean, SHLS, NSU,attended the seminar as Special Guests.Dr. Mohammad Hossain Shariare, professor & chairman, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, NSU, was present as the session chair.
Over the past two decades, Bangladesh’s pharmaceutical industry has transformed into a leading exporter of high-quality medicines to more than 150 countries. With government support, regulatory reforms, and an increasingly skilled workforce, local companies like Eskayef have positioned themselves as global players. Eskayef Pharmaceuticals, a pioneer in the industry, has been at the forefront of talent development through internships, management trainee programs, continuous training, and international exposure.
In his welcome address, Professor Dr. Mohammad Hossain Shariareurged universities, policymakers, and industry leaders to collaborate in preparing the next generation of pharmaceutical professionals. He said, “Together, we can make Bangladesh a global pharmaceutical hub—not only in production but also in innovation and talent development.”
Ikhtiar Hossain stressed the importance of attracting and nurturing young talent in the industry. He said, “There’s a growing demand for pharmacists, chemists, engineers, data analysts, and regulatory experts. But more than just technical skills, we need professionals with a global mindset, ethical grounding, and a passion for healthcare.
We’re witnessing unprecedented growth, not only in terms of export and production volume but also in the diversification of products, including biopharmaceuticals, oncology drugs, and nutraceuticals. This opens doors to thousands of high-skill jobs in manufacturing, R&D, quality assurance, regulatory affairs, and international marketing.”
Dr. Deepak Kumar Mitraaddressed the importance of industry-academia collaboration and informed students of the career opportunities present in the pharmaceutical industry of Bangladesh.
