North South University (NSU) recently hosted the Singapore Film Showcase, celebrating 60 years of Singapore’s culture, connection, and cinematic heritage. The event featured two landmark Singaporean films – Kopitiam Days and 12 Storeys – offering a captivating glimpse into the nation’s evolving cultural narrative, a press release said.
The program was graced by H.E. Mitchel Lee, Charge d’Affairesa.i., High Commission of the Republic of Singapore in Dhaka, along with an esteemed delegation from the Singapore High Commission. From NSU, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, PhD attended the event as the Chair. The showcase also drew participation from Deans, Directors, Chairs, and senior academic and administrative leaders of the university.
Prof. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury emphasized the importance of cultural exchange in strengthening international partnerships and fostering mutual understanding among nations. Speaking at the event, H.E. Mitchel Lee shared appreciation for NSU’s initiative in organizing the showcase and expressed interest to work together on more collaborations in the future.
The evening began with an Opening Ceremony, followed by the screening of Kopitiam Days, a heartfelt cinematic tribute to Singapore’s vibrant social fabric. After an intermission, the audience enjoyed 12 Storeys, a critically acclaimed classic that delves into the complexities of urban life.
Organized by the Office of External Affairs, North South University, the event provided NSU students, faculty, and staff a unique opportunity to experience Singaporean art and storytelling firsthand.
