“Let’s step into digital services to build better healthcare.” With this theme in mind, the Bangladesh Thalassaemia Samity Hospital has officially launched the “Patient Management System” today to improve services, information management, and treatment for thalassaemia patients in a more modern and effective way.
Through this new digital system, all types of patient-related medical information (such as blood transfusion data, clinical details, medication records, test results, and follow-up information) will be stored on an integrated platform. As a result, doctors and patients’ families will easily be able to access necessary information, making treatment faster and more accurate.
The event was attended by eminent hematologist Professor Dr. M. A. Khan, Honorary Advisor of Bangladesh Thalassaemia Samity and former Head of Hematology & BMT Department at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The program was presided over by Dr. M. A. Matin, President of Bangladesh Thalassaemia Samity.
Also Dr. Md. Zahidul Islam (Senior Vice President and Advisor of Bangladesh Thalassaemia Samity Hospital Research Institute), Engr. Md. Mosharrof Hossain (General Secretary), Engr. Md. Habibur Rahman (Treasurer), Engr. Kazi Ali Ashraf (Executive Member), Dr. A.K.M. Ekramul Hossain (Executive Director, Bangladesh Thalassaemia Samity Hospital), Dr. Mafruha Akter (Associate Professor, Hematology Department, Dhaka Medical College), and Dr. Nasib Mohammad Irsadullah (Assistant Professor, Hematology Department, National ENT Institute) were present at the event.
Dr. A.K.M. Ekramul Hossain delivered the welcome speech. He said, Today is a very significant day for us as we are inaugurating the Patient Management System of Bangladesh Thalassaemia Samity—a modern, digital, and timely initiative.
He explained that the system will make it easier to store and manage thalassaemia patients’ medical history, blood transfusions, medication usage, lab tests, and follow-ups. This will ensure improved patient care and help doctors make more effective decisions in diagnosis and treatment.
He further said, “We believe this initiative will not only benefit patients and their families but also make a significant contribution to thalassaemia prevention and research at the national level.”
Other speakers remarked:
This Patient Management System is a revolutionary step in improving the quality of life of thalassaemia patients. It will make services more organized and open new horizons in healthcare.
The Bangladesh Thalassaemia Samity hopes this initiative will play an important role not only in treatment but also in future research and policymaking. Thalassaemia is a challenge, but it can be prevented. Collective efforts, public awareness, and the use of modern technology are the strongest tools to control this disease.
Dr. M. A. Matin, President of the Samity, said, Today is a historic moment for our Samity as we inaugurate the Patient Management System—a digital platform that will mark the beginning of a new era in the quality of treatment and care for thalassaemia patients.
He also noted that every year thousands of children in Bangladesh are affected by thalassaemia, and the greatest challenge in long-term treatment is proper and regular medical management. Often, patients’ histories, transfusions, lab tests, and medication data are scattered, causing problems for both doctors and families. This new system will solve that problem by creating a complete database for each patient.
He expressed gratitude to all doctors, staff, and technology experts whose tireless efforts made this initiative possible.
The event concluded with a collective pledge: “Let us all work together towards building a thalassaemia-free Bangladesh.”
