Although this is a matter of pride for the country’s economy, it has also brought some new challenges. Especially in the field of protecting intellectual property or ‘Intellectual Property’ (IP), it is the demand of the hour to comply with international standards.
Md. Jasim Uddin said that one of the biggest challenges for Bangladesh in the post-LDC period will be to ensure the protection of intellectual property. He mentioned that if we do not provide legal protection to our innovations and creative works in time, we will have to face additional costs in using patents and technologies of foreign companies. This will make it difficult for domestic entrepreneurs to survive in the competition.
Mostafa Azad Chowdhury Babu said that we are ready to sign an effective coordination memorandum with DPDT Interested. Through which our FBCCI IRC Innovation and Research Floor can be a “connecting bridge” where innovators will present their new ideas and our team will help them turn those ideas into patentable innovations.
The keynote address was given by Md. Hafizur Rahman, former Director General, WTO Cell, Ministry of Commerce. He mentioned in his paper that if Bangladesh can ensure IP protection for innovators and develop an integrated system considering their needs, it will not only preserve the country’s competitive position after passing the LDC status, but also develop the country into a knowledge-based economy where innovation, justice and prosperity for all will play an important role.
