A day-long Bangladesh Writers’ Conference 2025–26 was held in Narayanganj on Saturday (January 10) marking International Writers’ Day 2025, with the slogan “We want a peaceful world, we want a just and beautiful homeland.”
The conference was organised by Bangladesh Writers’ Club, Narayanganj at the Narayanganj District Council Auditorium, where hundreds of poets and writers from different districts of the country gathered, turning the venue into a vibrant literary meeting place.
The programme formally began at 10:30 am with the inauguration by poet and researcher Aminul Islam. The opening session was chaired by poet Shafiqul Islam Arju, coordinator of the International Writers’ Day Celebration Committee, Narayanganj, while Abul Kalam Azad delivered the welcome address. Among the guests were fiction writer Shawon Asgar, rhyme-poet Yusuf Ali Atom, poet Babul Anwar, and poet Mahbuba Faruk. A one-minute silence was observed in memory of deceased writers and martyrs.
A seminar session started at 11:15 am, chaired by poet and fiction writer Faridul Maiyan. Poet Karim Reza presented the keynote paper, followed by discussions by poet and dramatist Jalal Uddin Naluya, essayist Asfakuzzaman, and poet ABM Sohel Rashid.
Later, floral tributes were paid at the Narayanganj Central Shaheed Minar. Poetry recitation sessions were held in the afternoon, featuring renowned poets from across the country.
The concluding session in the evening was presided over by poet Kazi Anisul Haque, with Muhammad Nurul Huda, eminent poet of national identity, as the chief guest. Poet Shah Mohammad Sanaul Haque, General Secretary of the central committee of Bangladesh Writers’ Club, spoke as the keynote speaker.
During the closing ceremony, the little magazine “Kobitar Compass,” the International Writers’ Day 2025 souvenir, and the literary web portal “KobitaBangla” were formally unveiled.
The conference concluded amid lively literary discussions, poetry recitations, and cultural enthusiasm.
