The Centre for Legal Research (CLR) in collaboration with Department of Law at North South University (NSU) organized the NSU Undergraduate Law Symposium Spring 2026 on Saturday (May 16, 2026) morning. Since 2021, the Department of Law at NSU has been hosting this symposium to honour the scholarly activities of the promising law students from all over Bangladesh. For this term, the symposium shortlisted 15 papers ranging from various universities, a press release said.
Professor Dr. Md. Sahal Uddin, Chairman of the Department of Law and Land Administration, University of Rajshahi; Sumaiya Sultana Ritu, Lecturer, Department of Law and Land Administration, Jagannath University, and Ehsan Mazid Mustafa, Assistant Professor of the Law Discipline at Khulna University served as the adjudicators for the symposium.
Talha Jubayer emerged as the champion of the symposium. Simultaneously, Mehrajun Sakin and Proma Debnath secured the position of 1st runner-up, and Abrar Bin Shoukat Alvi secured the position of 2nd runner-up, respectively. The prize-giving ceremony was graced by the presence of Professor Nasar U. Ahmed, the Pro-Vice Chancellor at North South University. Also in attendance were Professor Md. Rizwanul Islam, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at NSU, Norman K. Swazo, Director of Office of Research and Professor of Department of History and Philosophy and Ms. Nasmin Jabin Noor, Acting Chair of the Department of Law at North South University.
The Pro-Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Nasar U. Ahmed said that science and law are fundamentally interconnected. He emphasized that proper application of law is essential for ensuring transparent governance. According to him, research-oriented seminars such as symposium will help law students become more proficient in legal studies, and he expressed optimism in this regard.
In his concluding remarks, Professor Md. Rizwanul Islam lauded the young researchers for their intrepidness, industry, and ingenuity as reflected through their presentations and written papers. He underscored the importance of legal research, noting that every legal professional, including practitioners, is consciously or subconsciously involved in legal research of one form or another. He expressed the expectation that NSU Law’s effort to provide a platform for young legal minds will continue to thrive and contribute to legal research and policy-making.
The Director of the Office of Research at NSU and Professor of Philosophy Norman K. Swazo said that philosophy and law are extremely interrelated. He added that the development of law takes place in parallel with the development of philosophy.
The opening remarks of the program were delivered by the Chairperson (in-charge) of the Department of Law at North South University, Nasmin Jabin Noor. She said that the symposium is a unique opportunity for young researchers. Every year, students from across the country showcase their research papers and leave a mark of their intellectual capability through their presentations.
The organizers expressed hope that this symposium would play an important role in enhancing students’ research-oriented thinking, analytical skills, and academic confidence.
