D.Net appoints Dr. Shah Md. Ahsan Habib as Governing Body chairperson

D.Net announced the appointment of Professor Dr. Shah Md. Ahsan Habib as its Governing Body Chairperson, effective from 1 January 2026, marking a significant milestone for the organization as it continues its mission to empower marginalized communities in Bangladesh through access to technology and information, a press release said.

A co-founder of D.Net, Professor Habib brings decades of experience in academia, policy research, governance, and development finance. He is currently a Professor (Selection Grade) at the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) and is widely recognized for his contributions to banking, inclusive finance, SME development, and green banking. Alongside his new role at D.Net, he also serves as an Independent Director of IPDC Finance PLC., where he is a member of both the Board Audit Committee and the Risk Management Committee.

Professor Habib earned his PhD from India, and completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship on Green Banking at Syracuse University, USA, under the prestigious Senior Fulbright Scholarship. With more than 29 years of professional experience, his work spans teaching at leading universities, extensive policy research, and consultancy assignments with global institutions such as the World Bank, ADB, IFC, UNDP, UNEP, GIZ, DFID, and others. He is also a prolific author and columnist, with over 250 research publications and more than 250 newspaper articles on finance and development issues.

Expressing his thoughts on the appointment, Dr. Shah Md. Ahsan Habib said,

“D.Net has always stood for innovation, inclusion, and social impact. I am honored to take on this responsibility and look forward to working with the team to further strengthen D.Net’s role in empowering communities through knowledge, technology, and collaboration.”

Professor Habib is also a Member of the ICC Bangladesh Banking Commission, and a Trustee of Valor of Bangladesh.
