NSU celebrates ‘Saraswati Puja 2026’

North South University (NSU) commemorated Saraswati Puja 2026, a revered festival among the Hindu community, honouring the goddess of knowledge, music, art, and culture today. The event commenced with traditional rituals, including Puja Opening and Pushpanjali Offerings, a press release said.

Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of NSU, presided over the program. Farida Akhter, Hon’ble Adviser, Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, was present as the Chief Guest. Dr. Nasar Uddin Ahmed, Pro Vice-Chancellor of NSU, Professor Abdur Rob Khan, Treasurer of NSU, and Professor Dipak Kumar Mitra, Dean of the School of Health and Life Sciences at NSU, were also present at the event.

Dr. Nasar Uddin Ahmed said, “This program is a testimony to the diversity that defines our institution. NSU has always been a place where students from all backgrounds, cultures, and religions come together to learn, share, and grow.”

Professor Dipak Kumar Mitra said, “Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge and learning. This day reminds us that true education requires dedication, focus, and perseverance. At NSU, we place strong emphasis on the practice of ethics, values, and moral education alongside academic excellence.”

Professor Abdur Rob Khan said, “Programs like this help bring different communities closer, build mutual understanding, and enhance intercommunity harmony. We hope to organise more such events in the future.”

Chief Guest Farida Akhter praised the institution’s inclusive, non-communal atmosphere, highlighting students’ active participation from all backgrounds. She remarks, “Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge and music, reminding us of the transformative power of learning. A truly progressive society grows through the pursuit of knowledge, humanity, and moral values. Celebrations like this bring people together, strengthening our spirit of non-communal harmony and mutual respect.”

Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury said, “Celebration of Saraswati Puja is a big part of NSU’s cultural being. This year, the scale of the celebration has been larger and more colourful than ever before. North South University promotes an inclusive and multicultural environment where students learn to live with diversity and unity. This way, we will work together to take Bangladesh forward.”

Among others, deans of various faculties, faculty members, staff, parents, and students from different university departments were also present at the event. This year’s celebrations underscored NSU’s commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive community.

Prasad Distribution provided a moment of spiritual nourishment while cultural performances continued throughout the day, including an exceptional classical performance by guest artists. The festivities concluded with Aroti, Pradeep Prajwalan, and the traditional Dhunuchi Dance, symbolising joy and celebration.
