He made the remarks in his immediate reaction after casting his ballot at Gulshan Model High School in the capital on Thursday (February 12).
The Chief Adviser said the day could be remembered as a symbolic rebirth of the nation. “We may celebrate today as the birthday of the country,” he said. “Let us celebrate throughout the day, together as one people. This is a moment of immense joy — a day of liberation for all Bangladeshis. Our long nightmare is coming to an end, and a new chapter is beginning. That is our feeling today.”
Emphasizing the significance of the referendum being held alongside the election, Dr. Muhammad Yunus described it as crucial to the country’s future. He said the proposed changes have the potential to transform Bangladesh and urged citizens to take part actively in the vote.
“The referendum is extremely important. It can reshape the entire nation. I call upon everyone to participate so that we can truly build a new Bangladesh,” he said.
Expressing gratitude to the people, the Chief Adviser thanked voters and extended his congratulations to the nation. He once again encouraged citizens to join the referendum process and contribute to shaping the country’s future.
