A new standard in secure, private, and app‑enabled digital payments
Mastercard & ‘Prime NOW’, a digital service platform by Prime Bank, collaborated to introduce Bangladesh’s first numberless debit card, engineered to elevate security, privacy, and user control in digital payments, a press release said.
The Prime NOW Mastercard debit card removes printed card numbers, CVV, and expiry date from the physical card—eliminating the risk of copying, skimming, or visually capturing sensitive information. With no exposed data, the card prevents over the shoulder theft and traditional fraud attempts, setting a new benchmark for payment safety in the country.
All card information is stored securely within the Prime NOW app, protected by multi layer authentication, including optional biometric verification. Cardholders can instantly access their card details for online transactions through their phones.
The new card provides comprehensive app based controls, including secure QR driven activation, spending limits, access management, and digital reissuance. Even if the physical card is misplaced, it contains no usable information—rendering it inoperable for unauthorized use.
This debit card offers cardholders access to year-round privileges at over 10,000+ Mastercard partner merchants across Bangladesh. Designed with a minimalist and personalized approach, cardholders can select from multiple design options, customize the name displayed, and enable e commerce functionality with a single tap.
Tanjil Chowdhury, Chairman of the Board, Prime Bank PLC, said, “At Prime Bank, our 30-year legacy is built on trust, and our future is defined by innovation. With the Prime NOW Numberless Card—a first for Bangladesh—we are breaking the status quo. By removing physical card information, we’ve eliminated visual theft, replaced clutter with elegance, and handed absolute control to our users via the Prime NOW app. This isn’t just a card; it’s a shift towards a digital-first lifestyle. We are moving from forced processes to empowered choices. As a storied institution, we are proud to lead the charge into this next era of banking.”
Syed Mohammad Kamal, Country Manager, Bangladesh, Mastercard, said, “The launch of Prime NOW Mastercard numberless debit card marks a significant milestone in the country’s digital payments journey. As consumers look for greater privacy and seamless control, numberless technology offers a safer and more intuitive way to transact.
