North South University (NSU), in collaboration with the Russian House, Dhaka, hosted a vibrant musical evening on campus on 09 April 2026 (Thursday), celebrating Bangladesh’s Independence Day and the “Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia.”
Organized by NSU’s Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), the event drew more than 800 students and faculty members, highlighting growing cultural and academic cooperation between Bangladesh and Russia.
Speaking at the event, IQAC Director Professor Halimur R. Khan emphasized the crucial role the former Soviet Union played in supporting the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971 and in strengthening cultural diplomacy, thereby enriching international partnerships and the academic experience of students.
Alexandra Khlevnoy, Director of the Russian House, Dhaka, highlighted higher education opportunities in Russia, including the Russian Government Scholarship (Quota Program), and encouraged Bangladeshi students to explore academic pathways there.
NSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, who attended as the chief guest, recalled Russia’s support during Bangladesh’s Liberation War and underscored the enduring friendship between the two nations. He also noted the strong potential for expanded collaboration in higher education and research. NSU Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Nasar U. Ahmed also spoke on the need for cooperation between the two countries.
The program featured short video presentations on Bangladesh–Russia relations and educational opportunities, followed by a musical performance by the Dhaka Melodiya Project.
The performance included works by Dmitri Shostakovich and Sergei Rachmaninoff, along with popular Russian folk songs such as Kalinka and Korobeiniki, captivating the audience.
The event concluded with an enthusiastic response from attendees, reinforcing cultural exchange and people-to-people connections between the two countries.
