Mastermind arrested with Tk 23 lakh after CNG station stolen by cutting grill in city

In a raid by the Chandgaon Police Station of the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP), Md. Yunus Rony (37), the mastermind of the theft ring, has been arrested along with Tk 23 lakh 73 thousand 510 stolen from the CNG station.

According to the police, the victim Md. Kamrul Islam (25) filed a written complaint with the Chandgaon Police Station on April 26.

In it, he mentioned that sometime between 6 pm and 9 pm on April 25, the thieves entered the office room of the Clewiston CNG station located in the C&B intersection area under the Chandgaon Police Station by cutting the grill of the back window.

Later, they broke open the locker of the steel cupboard and stole Tk 26 lakh 29 thousand 352. A case (No. 27, dated 26/04/2026) under Section 457/380) was filed at Chandgaon Police Station in this incident.

After the case, a special team was formed under the leadership of the officer-in-charge of the police station, Md. Nur Hossain Mamun. The team included SI Mohammad Amir Hossain, SI Hridoy Mahmud Liton and ASI Md. Mizanur Rahman and other members.

They conducted raids in different parts of the city and tried to identify the gang of thieves.

Later, based on secret information, a raid was conducted in the Moulvibazar area under Chandgaon Police Station and the ringleader of the gang, Yunus Rony, was arrested.

During initial interrogation, he confessed to his involvement in the theft. Based on the information he provided, the stolen Tk 23 lakh 73 thousand 510 kept in two plastic bags was recovered from a bush behind Kabir Tower in the South Mohra area.

Police said that the operation to arrest other members of the gang is ongoing, said Deputy Police Commissioner Amirul Islam.
