In 1999, during the World Cup in England, Sachin Tendulkar lost his father. He returned home for the last rites, missing a match against Zimbabwe, which India lost. Ahead of the must-win clash against Kenya, Sachin rejoined the team, carrying his grief but delivering a stunning 140 off 101 balls to lead India to a 94-run victory.

His century celebration that day in Bristol reflected his pain—removing his helmet, closing his eyes, and looking to the sky as if seeking his father. It became his way of honoring his late father in every century he scored thereafter.

Similarly, Chittagong Kings’ Khaled Ahmed learned of his mother’s passing on Thursday soon after his team’s win over Khulna Tigers. He bowled brilliantly in that match, taking two wickets for 26 runs in four overs as his team won by 45 runs.

Joyfully entering the team hotel after the match, Khaled was met with devastating news: his mother had passed away. Stricken with grief, he rushed to Sylhet that very night.

Khaled missed the match against Rangpur Riders on Friday, but just two days later, he returned to the BPL, donning the Kings’ jersey once again.

Picking up where he left off, Khaled delivered another fine performance, taking two wickets for 27 runs against Barishal.

How did Khaled find the strength to return? Enamul Haque Jr, Chittagong’s assistant coach, shared the story in the post-match press conference.

“Khaled called and said he wanted to return and play this match against Barishal. His courage and selflessness have left everyone in the franchise and team management in awe,” said Enamul.

“Honestly, we are very proud of Khaled. In such a difficult situation, he agreed to return for the team’s sake. Staying back in Sylhet would have only worsened his grief. He called me yesterday, asking, ‘What should I do, brother?’ I told him that staying in Sylhet might deepen his sorrow, but returning here could lift his spirits a bit. He said he wanted to play this match against Barishal.”

“To be honest, we are all impressed by his bravery. Despite such a major loss, he came back, played, and bowled brilliantly again today,” Enamul concluded.

Barishal’s match-winner, Dawid Malan, also took a moment to console Khaled. Despite being on opposing sides, Malan embraced Khaled, offering solidarity and comfort.
