Dhaka : North South University (NSU) organized a Dua and a tribute to honor the memory of its Founder Life Member and Former Chairman of the Board of Trustees, eminent industrialist Azim Uddin Ahmed. The program took place on Sunday, 10 August 2025, in the university’s Central Auditorium, attended by faculty members, students, administrative staff, members of the Board of Trustees, and the family of the late Azim Uddin Ahmed.
The event commenced with the recitation from the Holy Qur’an, followed by the screening of a documentary on the life and legacy of Mr. Azim Uddin Ahmed.
In his welcome address, Professor Abdur Rob Khan, Treasurer and Pro Vice-Chancellor (IC) of NSU, reflected on Mr. Azim Uddin Ahmed’s invaluable contributions to the institution. Tributes were also delivered by NSU Project Director Mushtaque Habib and Professor ShazzadHosain, Dean of the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences, on behalf of the university’s staff and faculty, a press release said.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, Founder Life Member and Former Chairman M. A. Kashem said, “We mourn his passing as deeply as his own family does. I have known him since long before NSU was founded. He was a patriotic, honest man with a strong moral compass and an unwavering commitment to the development of education in Bangladesh. His vision and generosity played a pivotal role in establishing NSU as a center of excellence.”
Other members of the NSU Board of Trustees paid tribute to Mr. Azim Uddin Ahmed. Among them were Mohammed Shajahan, Mr. Benajir Ahmed, Mrs. Rehana Rahman, Mrs. Yasmin Kamal, and Fawzia Naaz. Each of them reflected on Azim Uddin Ahmed’s remarkable contributions to the founding and growth of North South University, recalling his unwavering dedication, integrity, and vision. They expressed profound grief at his passing and reaffirmed their commitment to carrying forward his legacy in advancing the institution’s mission.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Azim Uddin Ahmed’s daughter, Farzana Azim Kanta, said, “My father was an exceptionally humble man; he was kind, generous, and devoted to society. He loved NSU as if it were his child, just as he loved us.”
Aziz Al Kaiser, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, NSU, said, “We remembered him as a humble and accomplished industrialist, a man of great heart, and a dedicated co-founder of NSU. His unwavering commitment and visionary leadership laid the foundation for the university’s success. Guided by his enduring values and vision, we are inspired to continue advancing NSU’s mission and take the institution forward to new heights.”
Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of NSU, expressed deep respect for Mr. Azim Uddin Ahmed, saying, “He was a man of grace and a gentle heart, always giving due respect and recognition to those who deserved it. His extraordinary contributions to NSU’s development and the spread of world-class higher education in Bangladesh will be remembered for generations.”
The program concluded with a special prayer and supplication led by Dr. Mohammad Ahsanul Hadi, Associate Professor, Department of Persian Language and Literature, University of Dhaka.
