A fruitful meeting was held between Ajay Kapoor, Regional Managing Director, South Asia, International Standards Organization, Intertek Bangladesh, and InamulHaque Khan, Senior Vice President, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA). The objective of the meeting was to address the ongoing challenges in the garment industry, create a sustainable business environment and enhance mutual cooperation, a press release said.
BGMEA Director Nafis-ud-Daulah, Director Joarder Mohammad HosneQamarAlam and Sheikh SuchitaJahanSneha, Coordinator, Responsible Business Hub were also present at the meeting held at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara.
Intertek was represented at the meeting by Regional Chief Financial Officer, South Asia Ashish Gupta, Country Managing Director Neyamul Hassan and Head of Sales, Business Development and CRM Aliza Sultana.
In the meeting, BGMEA Senior Vice President EnamulHaque Khan highlighted the current state of the garment industry and their expectations from Intertek. In particular, there was a discussion on how to get more cooperation across the supply chain by using Intertek’s Assurance, Testing, Inspection, and Certification (ATIC) services.
He said that to make the garment sector more sustainable, especially for SMEs, BGMEA is keen to work with Intertek to enhance skills in the technological areas, such as the use of digital platforms and regular training for workers and management personnel. All these services will essentially help make Bangladesh’s garment industry more competitive and trustworthy in the international market.
He reiterated BGMEA’s strong commitment to establishing a unified set of standards for social and environmental standards in the garment industry and sought Intertek’s cooperation in this regard.
During the meeting, both sides expressed their interest in working together to advance the garment industry and improve standards. Both sides agreed that closer collaboration and knowledge sharing are essential to make the supply chain more transparent and sustainable.
The Senior Vice President of BGMEA appreciated Intertek’s long-standing contribution to the garment sector and emphasized on exploring new areas of future collaboration.

Both organizations agreed to explore more opportunities to work together in the future.
