The annual council session of the Forum of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh (FDEB), the national organization of diploma engineers, was held at the IDEB building in Kakrail, Dhaka, on Saturday.

The event, moderated by the forum’s general secretary, Engineer Zainul Abedin, and chaired by Engineer Abdus Chattar Shah, was attended by FDEB’s chief advisor and prominent politician, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said: “The future Bangladesh will be a technology-dependent and smart country. The development of the engineering sector must be promoted by combining technicians, diploma engineers and B.Sc engineers. No one’s performance can be hindered, everyone must be given an opportunity to play a role based on their qualifications. We will build an education system where engineers will be ideal not only in terms of technology knowledge, but also in terms of morality. Engineers will have an important role to play in building a corruption-free society and an unemployment-free Bangladesh based on qualifications. If the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami comes to power, the people will no longer have to take to the streets to demand their demands. The salary structure will be determined according to the depth and responsibility of the service. Promising to reform the education system, the Jamaat Amir said that a combination of moral and material education will be created so that everyone can get a job according to their qualifications after completing their education. No one will be unemployed. Everyone will either be an entrepreneur or a job holder.

He further said, “No one’s status will be determined based on their degree alone. Status will be given based on their work skills and results.” Although it is not possible to launch a bullet train of development in five years, the Jamaat-e-Ameer hopes that an express train of development can definitely be launched.”

At the event, forum advisor and keynote speaker ATM Azharul Islam said, “Engineers’ contribution to the country’s infrastructure development, power and energy, information technology, communication systems, and industrialization is immense. Now we need to build a prosperous society through sustainable development, where engineers will work with people from all walks of life.”

Saiful Alam Khan Milon, advisor to the Special Speaker Forum and member of the Central Executive Council of Jamaat-e-Islami, said: “To realize the dream of building a self-reliant Bangladesh, we must develop the skills of engineers, invest in research and advance innovative activities. Along with this, it is the demand of the hour to come forward with patriotism, ethics and social responsibility.”

In the program, the newly elected president of the forum, Engineer Md. Abdus Chattar Shah, said: Diploma engineers have been performing the main responsibility of infrastructural development from marginal to urban areas for a long time. The right of 10th grade diploma engineers, recognized by the state law in 1978, is not a mercy or quota. However, a group is deliberately creating confusion on this issue. And not giving 10th grade to diploma engineers means creating obstacles to national development.”

IDEB Interim Committee Convener Engineer Kabir Hossain also spoke at the event. Member Secretary Engineer Kazi Sakhawat Hossain, FDEB Central Vice President Engineer Mirza Mizanur Rahman, Vice President Engineer Tayebur Rahman Jahangir, Joint Secretary Engineer Md. Abul Hashem, Engineer Mostafa Kamal, Engineer Abu Mehedi, Engineer Abdul Baten, Engineer Mahbubur Rahman, Engineer Shahjahan Kabir Ripon, Engineer Fazlul Haque, Organizing Secretary Engineer Abdus Samad Sardar, Publicity Secretary Engineer Yasin Ahmed, Dhaka Metropolitan North Secretary Engineer Tarequl Islam Tarek, South Secretary Engineer Wahidur Rahman Nijhum, among others.

Speakers at the council session called on engineers to work together to build a technology-based, prosperous Bangladesh.
