North South University (NSU) has once again secured its position as one of the leading universities in Bangladesh, jointly ranking number 1 in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026. NSU shares this top position with Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University, Gazipur Agricultural University, and Daffodil International University. All five universities have been placed within the 801–1000 band in this year’s global rankings; this was officially unveiled on 9 October 2025, a press release said.
The 2026 edition of the ranking assessed 2,191 universities from 115 countries around the world, marking one of the most comprehensive evaluations in THE’s history. A total of nineteen (19) Bangladeshi universities have been ranked this year, showcasing the country’s growing presence on the global academic stage.
NSU was ranked number one university in Bangladesh last year; it jointly shared the position with four other Bangladeshi universities. This year, the lineup remains largely the same, with the University of Dhaka joining the top group, replacing Jashore University of Science and Technology among the highest-ranked institutions from Bangladesh.
Expressing his pride in this continued achievement, Professor Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of North South University, stated: “This milestone reflects the collective effort and commitment of our students, faculty, staff, and alumni who continually strive for academic excellence and innovation. We are grateful for the guidance of the NSU Board of Trustees and the support from the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission, whose collaboration enables us to pursue higher goals. NSU remains dedicated to expanding its research impact, fostering international partnerships, and preparing graduates to lead with vision and integrity in a global context.”
Professor Chowdhury was present at the Times Higher Education World Academic Summit 2025, held from 7–9 October 2025 in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia, where the official results of the World University Rankings 2026 were announced. His participation underscored NSU’s growing engagement in the global academic dialogue and its commitment to international collaboration and excellence.
