The North South University Center for Legal Research (NSU-CLR) in collaboration with the Department of Law at North South University organized the NSU Undergraduate Law Symposium Summer 2025. Since 2021, the Department of Law at NSU has been hosting this symposium to honour the scholarly endeavours of the promising law students from all over the country. For this term, the symposium shortlisted 15 papers from more than 40 papers submitted by the students of various public and private universities of Bangladesh, a press release said.
Dr. Md. Rabiul Islam, PhD, Professor, Department of Law & Justice, Jahangirnagar University; Dr. Noor-E-Medina Suraiya Jesmin, Assistant Professor, Department of Law and Human Rights, University of Asia Pacific, and Nabila Farhin, Senior Lecturer, Department of Law, East West University served as the adjudicators for the symposium. Syed MD Alamgir Hussain (an undergraduate student of Green University) emerged as the champion of the symposium. Simultaneously, Naoshin Sharmin and Nurshalin Islam Shifat from University of Dhaka secured the position of 1st runner-up as co-authors, and Wasit Zawad Ismam from North South University secured the position of 2nd runner-up. The prize-giving ceremony was graced by the presence of Professor Abdur Rob Khan, the Honorable Treasurer & Pro-Vice Chancellor (In-charge) at NSU. Also in attendance were Professor Md Rizwanul Islam, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at NSU, and Professor Ishtiaque Ahmed (Barrister-At-Law), Chair of the Department of Law at NSU.
During the prize-giving ceremony, Professor Md. Rabiul Islam commended the student presenters and acknowledged NSU for providing the platform that encourages research and emphasized the urgent necessity for highly skilled legal intellectuals in Bangladesh.
Professor Md Rizwanul Islam appreciated the long legacy of organizing the Undergraduate Law Symposium in NSU. He went on to highlight the importance of publishing these papers to contribute to the advancement of legal scholarship.
Professor Abdur Rob Khan highlighted the commitment of NSU CLR and the Department of Law to supporting initiatives like the symposium and assisting junior scholars in building a stronger future for the nation, reiterating that good legal education goes beyond classrooms.
Professor Ishtiaque Ahmed announced the results and shared the aim of NSU to be a research-led university, with major contributions from NSU CLR and the Department of Law. He further noted that organizing such symposiums is crucial for both recognizing and developing the talents of young legal minds.
