NSU hosts green campus contest

North South University (NSU), in association with the NSU Earth Club, hosted the final round of the Green Campus Initiative (GCI) 2025, a student project proposal competition, on 7 December 2025, a press release said.

The winning team, The H2Ologist, from NSU’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (DCEE) won the first prize with the theme of “Water Conservation and Management”. The second position was secured by Team Inertia, from the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) ECE department, with the theme “Green Materials and Technology: Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction.” The third position was secured by Eco Point, from the DCEE, with the theme “Waste Management”. The winning teams will have the opportunity to work on NSU’s new campus with a budget of 50 lakhs BDT.

Professor Abdur Rob Khan, Treasurer and Pro Vice Chancellor (IC), NSU, attended the program as the Chief Guest.  The competition was judged by an esteemed panel of experts, including Dr. Dipak Kumar Mitra, Professor and Dean, School of Health & Life Sciences (SHLS), NSU, and Dr. Shazzad Hosain, Professor and Dean, School of Engineering & Physical Sciences (SEPS), NSU.

Approximately 64 teams proposed their ideas for the Green Campus Initiative, with a total of 14 student teams selected for the final round. The competition encouraged student-led sustainability and campus-wide recycling proposals. The event featured an extensive proposal submission phase in the first stage, which ended on November 29 2025, and a 3-minute pitch deck presentation in the final stage, which ended on 7 December 2025.

The Green Campus Initiative successfully inspired the university community to pursue sustainable solutions. With strong participation and innovative ideas from the finalists, the event highlighted the students’ commitment to environmental improvement and reinforced the university’s dedication to a greener future.
