LafargeHolcim Bangladesh PLC (LHB) successfully organized the Engineer Summit 2025 yesterday at the Rose View Hotel in Sylhet. The event brought together leading structural experts, academicians and industry professionals from Sylhet region to discuss the critical theme: “Importance of Concrete in Earthquake Resilience and Sustainability, a press release said.
The summit featured a technical session designed to address the growing need for disaster resilient infrastructure in Bangladesh. Dr. Raquib Ahsan, Professor of Civil Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), delivered the keynote speech, emphasizing the vital role of high-quality materials and advanced engineering practices in mitigating seismic risks.
Following the keynote, a panel discussion took place featuring esteemed guests Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed, Professor, Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) and Architecture Subrata Das, Associate Professor, Department of Architecture, SUST. The panel discussion was moderated by Fakhruddin Mohammad Khan, Head of Innovation and Technical Services, LHB. The Commercial and Logistics Director of LHB Mohammad Mahfuzul Hoque attended the event as a special guest.

Attendees expressed their appreciation to LHB for hosting the summit in Sylhet, highlighting the region’s critical vulnerability as one of the country’s most high-risk seismic zones.
The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where local engineers and architects from Sylhet region engaged with the speakers on the practicalities of implementing earthquake-resistant designs using Supercrete and other innovative Holcim products.
