The high-level meeting of ‘Alliance of Universities in Ashulia’, comprising private universities in the Ashulia region, was held today at the meeting room of the permanent campus of Manarat International University in Ashulia, a press release said.
The meeting was presided over by Professor Dr. Mohammad Abdur Rab, Vice-Chancellor of Manarat International University. Among others, Eastern University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Farid Ahmed Sobhani, Asian University of Bangladesh Vice-Chancellor Emeritus Professor Dr. Shahjahan Khan, Daffodil International University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. R. Kabir were present. In addition, the Pro-Vice-Chancellors, Treasurers and Registrars of the concerned universities participated in the meeting.
The meeting discussed the progress, implementation and future course of action of the previously signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). In addition, several other important issues related to the overall education and infrastructure development of the Ashulia region were discussed and decisions were taken.
The decisions are: 1. Determining a common strategy to develop the area around the universities as a drug-free area. 2. Taking joint initiatives to expand the road from Birulia to Charabagh and ensure smooth movement of students. 3. Coordination with the Road Department to resolve traffic congestion at Akrain Intersection. 4. Exchange of research activities and experiences between the universities. 5. Initiatives to improve the law and order situation and establish police outposts to deal with any emerging situation. 6. Seeking cooperation from the concerned department of the Power Department to ensure uninterrupted power supply. 7. Discussion on establishing Ashulia as a ‘Higher Education Zone’. 8. Increasing mutual communication and cooperation between the universities. 9. Formation of a joint proctorial team comprising members of the proctorial bodies of five universities.
Incidentally, with the aim of developing the Ashulia region as a higher education city, a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on the Eastern University campus on 25 October 2025 between five private universities located in the region. In light of this agreement, the ‘Alliance of Universities in Ashulia’ was formed. The universities are – Eastern University, Asian University of Bangladesh, Manarat International University, Daffodil International University, and City University.
