The Education Sector of the Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) has launched a winter relief initiative, distributing comprehensive clothing packages to 220 underprivileged street and working children across the capital. The distribution has conducted under the Drop-in Center (DIC) and Night Shelter project, supported by DAM UK and the Reed Foundation. The initiative targets vulnerable children living in areas including Kamalapur Railway Station, Titipara, Rayerbazar, and Mohammadpur Beribandh. To ensure protection against the seasonal drop in temperature, each child received a curated package containing: a woolen hoodie jacket, trousers, socks, a winter hat, a thick blanket for extreme cold, vaseline and cold cream to prevent skin ailments, a press release said.

The distribution events were attended by the senior management from the Dhaka Ahsania Mission, including: president of Dhaka Ahsania Mission Professor Dr. Golam Rahman, Vice President (Institute) Professor Dr. Abu Tayyab Abu Ahmed, Vice President (Programme) Dr. SM Khalilur Rahman, Executive Director (Programme) K M Zahiduzzaman, Joint Director Education & TVET Sector Md. Monirruzzaman and Nasir Uddin Ahmed, Project Coordinator of DIC & Night Shelter project.

During the handover ceremonies, Dhaka Ahsania Mission officials emphasized the organization’s commitment to the development of marginalized children. “We must work collectively to improve the quality of life for underprivileged children by ensuring their basic rights are upheld,” speakers noted. The recipient children expressed gratitude for the support but also utilized the platform to voice systemic challenges. Many highlighted ongoing issues such as physical abuse, harassment, and a lack of access to consistent healthcare and nutrition.

“Dhaka Ahsania Mission remains dedicated to providing a safety-net for these children through our Drop-in-Center and Night Shelter projects, ensuring they are not left behind during the harsh winter months.”
