Eastern Bank (EBL), in partnership with the Alzheimer Society of Bangladesh (ASB), has launched a scholarship program to develop skilled dementia caregivers in Bangladesh under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, a press release said.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at EBL’s Head Office recently. EBL Company Secretary Md. Abdullah Al Mamun FCS handed over the scholarship cheque to ASB General Secretary Md. Azizul Haque.

Under the agreement, 20 underprivileged youths will receive full scholarships to undertake the NSDA-approved “Dementia Care (Level-3)” course. The six-month program comprises 360 hours of professional training aimed at creating qualified, home-based dementia caregivers.

With dementia cases in Bangladesh projected to rise from 1.1 million in 2020 to 2.4 million by 2041, the initiative seeks to address the growing demand for trained caregivers while generating employment opportunities for disadvantaged youth.

Speaking at the event, Md. Abdullah Al Mamun said the program aims to remove financial barriers to skill development and strengthen the country’s healthcare workforce. Md. Azizul Haque noted that EBL’s support would significantly contribute to improving dementia care and raising public awareness.
