Eastern University wins Bangladesh round of Jessup Moot Court

Eastern University Moot Court Team has emerged as the champion of the Final Round of the 10th Bangladesh Qualifying Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition 2026 by defeating the University of Dhaka Law Moot Court Team. With this victory, Eastern University has also qualified for the International Rounds of the competition and will once again represent Bangladesh on the global stage, a press release said.

The championship-winning team consisted of Sakib Khondoker as Researcher, Zarin Sadaf Lopa and Parisha Mehezabeen as Oralists, and Md. Sakib Sarker as Additional Researcher. The team was coached by A.B.M. Imdadul Haque Khan and Md. Omar Farque Tamim. Through in-depth legal research, well-structured arguments, and confident courtroom advocacy, the team secured the national title.

On the occasion, a reception ceremony was held yesterday at Rezakul Haider Hall of Eastern University, where the team was honored with a red-carpet welcome. The Honorable Vice Chancellor of Eastern University, Professor Dr. Farid Ahmed Sobhani, Treasurer Professor Md. Shamsul Huda, and Registrar Dr. Abul Basher Khan extended their heartfelt congratulations to the team. Faculty members, students of the Department of Law, and heads of various departments of the university were also present at the event.

This year’s national round witnessed the participation of 48 law schools from across the country, making it the largest national Jessup competition in South Asia and the third largest in the world. Among the ten editions of the Bangladesh Qualifying Rounds, Eastern University has qualified for the international rounds six times so far, including four championship titles and two runner-up finishes, reflecting the university’s consistent excellence in mooting.

The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the largest and most prestigious moot court competition for law students worldwide and is widely known as the “World Cup of Mooting.” The Bangladesh Qualifying Rounds of Jessup 2026 were organized by Jessup Bangladesh and the ILSA Bangladesh Chapter, in association with Hearth Bangladesh, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, and AIUB. This year marked the tenth consecutive edition of the competition in Bangladesh.
