Playback singer Nazmien Nazo is currently going through one of the busiest phases of her career in the playback and audio industry. Alongside playback singing, she is actively engaged in stage shows, live television performances, recording programs, and voice-over work. She is also lending her voice to digital promotional songs related to the ongoing national parliamentary elections in Bangladesh.
Nazmien Nazo’s full name is Nazmien Nazo. She was born in Kapasia Upazila of Gazipur district, and she spent her childhood in her native village.
She began learning music from her parents at the age of just six. Later, she received training from local ustad Nazrul Islam. She also studied Nazrul Sangeet under Ripon Mehbub at Sur Lahari Music Academy in Savar, and completed a four-year course in classical music under Ustad Babu Rahman at the Student–Teacher Centre of Jahangirnagar University.
Subsequently, she received five years of training in Nazrul and classical music from Ustad Luje Baroui at Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts (BAFA). She also trained in classical music under Ustad Asid at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Currently, she is continuing her classical music training at the Alliance Française de Dhaka, Dhanmondi branch in Dhaka.
From an early age, Nazo regularly performed at various school programs. She achieved success at the district level in competitions featuring Nazrul Sangeet, modern songs, and folk songs, and also earned recognition in the Notun Kuri competition.
Alongside her music career, she is currently studying in her final year at Dewan Idris L College in Savar. Earlier, she completed her graduation from Savar University College.
Nazmien Nazo began her musical journey in 2004 with the album “Kothay Acho Porodeshi,” composed by renowned violinist Almas Ali Khan. Later, she recorded several original songs written and composed by some of the country’s most popular lyricists and composers.
She has sung songs written and composed by noted lyricists such as Gazi Mazharul Anwar, Sheikh Sadi, Plabon Qureshi, Morshedul Islam, Milton Khandakar, Aminul, Hasan Matiur Rahman, Firoz Plabon, Rownak Raihan, S. M. Sohel, Syed Shafiqul Islam, and poet Mahmudul Hasan Nizami, among many others. Several of her original songs have gained significant popularity.
So far, Nazmien Nazo has lent her voice to nearly 200 original songs and has sung for around 25 films.
She is also a listed artist of Bangladesh Television (BTV), where she performs regularly, and is an active performer at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Some of her popular songs include “Ajob Shohor Dhaka,” “Cholo Dujone Mile Jai Palaiya,” and “Ami Jowan Ekta Maiya.”
When asked about her dreams in music, Nazmien Nazo said, “I want to stay connected with music for the rest of my life. I want to continue singing meaningful Bangla songs with beautiful lyrics and melodies, and present Bangla music on the global stage.”
She added, “I always want to work for healthy cultural practices, because music flows in my blood.”
